PRESS RELEASE

OFF TO A GREAT START: DEVELOPING DIGITAL KNOWLEDGE WITH THE PROGRAM PILOT RUN OF eSMART DIGITAL LICENcE+

IN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL!

With everything made available online, through our phones, laptops, or any technological device that we own, the information we see and read may only provide us with a particular perspective that does not grasp the whole idea; and as we continue to experience the concept of the internet, we should ask ourselves: What can we do to help our children be more knowledgeable about how our world functions in digital viewpoints?

From this, JA Philippines, in partnership with Alannah & Madeline Foundation; and with the support of the DQ Institute and the Accenture Foundation, has successfully conducted the eSmart Digital Licence+ program pilot run from June 20, 2022, to July 31, 2022, in selected schools from Negros Occidental namely the following: Don Hilarion G. Gonzaga Memorial High School, Murcia National High School, Barangay Alegria National High School, Negros Occidental High School, and Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School.

Through the guidance of our teachers who have helped facilitate, along with Mr. Joema Lasanas, the head of the program‘s pilot run process in Negros Occidental, the program was able to gather a total of 98 Grade 7 and Grade 8 students to participate, where they have focused on learning about digital literacy while having the opportunity to develop skills and readiness through a gamified and interactive learning experience. The eSmart Digital Licence+ program became a stepping stone toward providing Junior High School students an avenue to learn about the purpose of Information and Communications Technology (ICT); that with the process of making decisions, solving problems, and controlling machines – we should learn to control and use technology in ways that are healthy and balanced, by the right knowledge, strategies, and self-regulation.

Throughout the duration of the pilot run, students have participated well in the program and some have shown exemplary results with all the 4 modules presented in the program! In addition, teachers observed positive aspects of the program’s focus, with one teacher saying the following:
